Outfit of the Day: Retro Little Black Dress

Hey guys,
Hope everyone's having a good day, and it's Friday woooo :). I thought I'd show you the outfit I wore to the cinema last night. I went to see the Avengers and OMG it is amazing. I would definitely recommend going to see it.

Now I got given this dress in a pile of clothes from one of my mum's friends. She often gives me clothes from her "younger days" as she likes to call them that no longer fit her. Often a lot of it doesn't fit me as she is a lot taller than me but this dress was an exception :).
I love it, it's just so cute. It's from Topshop but a long time ago I think. The label inside is different to my new Topshop clothes. It also says made in the UK and I checked all my other Topshop clothes and they all say made in China. This dress is probably about 20 years old and I love it.

I wore it with a gold necklace, black tights and my heeled boots, but it also looks good with bare legs and sandals which is perfect for summer (If it ever arrives).
I'm sorry about the bad lighting it's just so grey outside! also sorry about the lack of face, I'm spending the day inside doing revision so wanted to give my face a break from makeup.
Hope you like the dress.

Boots, Lush and Primark Haul

Hey guys
This is my first ever haul post and hopefully it will be the first of many.

I went shopping yesterday it wasn't as successful as I would have liked but I did get some nice things.
I got I got a mint green top from Primark and a seamless cream vest top. I am pretty obsessed with mint green at the moment and it was only 4 pounds. The vest top I bought because you always need plain vest tops especially when the top is slightly see through :). I also got some foot moisturiser from boots and a small tube of cucumber clay face mask. From Lush I bought some shower scrub.

My favourite purchase from yesterday has to be the Lush product. Lush is such an amazing shop and I went in there to get a scrub for either my feet or legs as I feel I have neglected both of them over the winter months. The lady in the shop was really nice and showed me their whole range and I eventually settled on Rub rub rub shower scrub because it can also double up as a foot scrub. I will do a full review of it soon :).

This week I have done a spring clean of my wadrobe and have made some room for some new summer clothes. I have put some of the stuff i no longer have room for on ebay. You can check it all out here. Hope you're all having a nice day :).

What do you think of the haul? have you tried any of the products before?

Spring nail polish

Hey guys :)

I joined a blog hop today check it out here I've found some pretty good blogs there already :).

Anyway my life is pretty dull at the moment it is pretty much get up, revise, eat, revise, watch family guy on BBC three sleep then do it all again. Thank god for family guy. I can't wait for exams to be over but tonight I'm going to nandos for dinner yaaaay very excited..

To cheer myself up at the moment I've painted my nails in my five favourite spring nail varnishes.

From thumb to little finger I have used:

1. Rimmel Profesional Finish - 420 Aqua Cool
2. Barry M - 318 Peach Melba
3. Collection 2000 Hot looks - 38 Mint Mojo
4. Barry M - 142 Lilac Foil
5. Collection 2000 Hot looks - 35 Dynasty

I have also used Rimmel Matt Finish as a top coat.

I had completely forgotten about the two collection 2000 nail varnishes but I found them when I went home and I actually really like them so I'm glad I found them again. The blue Rimmel varnish I have on my thumb is really easy to apply, the flat brush fits perfectly on your nail and the consistency of the polish is perfect. I would definitely recommend getting any polishes from this series :).

Lots of Love

P.S.  I'm going to go shopping soon as I NEED some retail therapy so hopefully there will be a haul post tomorrow :).

Purple ASOS Dress

Hey guys :)
I hope everyone has had a nice weekend. Mine was especially nice as my grandparents came to visit and we went for lunch at Frankie and Bennys which is one of my favourite places to eat.
We had a plate of olives and cibatta bread for starters and that was amazing. I'm pretty much addicted to olives they might in fact be my favourite food. I then had a burger for main and a cherry crumble for dessert which was lovely :).

Anyway this post is going to be about a dress got from ASOS recently. I'm not entirely sure about it so I would like your honest opinions on it. In some ways I really like it but I've always found it hard to wear this particular sort of style. However it was only £13.00 which is a good price and makes me wonder if there is any point in sending it back. Here are a few pictures of the dress. Sorry about the windswept look it was a bit windy.

So what do you guys think? Shall I keep it?
Hope people have had a lovely weekend :)

Lots of Love

Homemade Banana and Honey Face Mask

Hey guys,
Lately my skin's been acting up so I decided to look for some DIY face masks. My skin is combination and also slightly sensitive so I have real trouble finding products that work well with my skin.
I came across a Banana mask for oily skin which I thought sounded good as the main thing I struggle with is how much oil I have on my face.

To make it you simply mix one banana a tablespoon of honey and some lemon juice together in a bowl. Then I found that using a cotton pad to smooth it around your skin works really well. The mask gave off a nice scent however having lumps of banana on my face wasn't the most attractive I've ever looked. I left the mask on for about 20 minutes and then washed it off with a flannel. Make sure you wash all the mixture off the flannel immediately though otherwise it's really hard to get off.

The banana in the mask contains essential vitamins and Amino acids that are really good for our skin. The honey is really good for the skin because it is a mild antiseptic this will help remove any bacteria that will cause spots. It also contains Amino acids and mild alpha hydroxy acids, these help boost our skins elasticity, locks in moisture and can balance oily skin. So there is real science behind why this mask works so well :). I looked this all up and found it really interesting, it's the chemist in me trying to break free :).

When I took the mask off my skin was oil free, plus my skin felt really soft and moisturised. When I woke up in the morning my face was a lot less oily than it usually is and also the dry patches were completely gone. I don't think the mask hasn't done anything visible for any spots I have but it has definitely helped the texture and appearance of my combination skin.

I also made my boyfriend use it ( I say made I'm pretty sure he enjoyed it even if he won't admit it =P). He has a small amount of acne and uses prescription creams for it, this really dries his skin out no matter how  much moisturiser he uses. The mask made a substantial difference to his skin although his skin was still a little dry the next morning it was nowhere near as bad as it usually is and as soon as he put some  moisturiser on the dryness went away. I would definitely recommend making this mask it's kind to the skin and it's really fun too :). Plus I find it's always nice to know that you're not putting any harmful chemicals on your skin.

My new favourite thing.

Hey guys

I thought I'd put this little post up before I hit the library today. So yesterday a parcel arrived for me, it was a scrabble letter ring that I had ordered from ebay. It was wrapped in tissue paper in a cute little bag which I thought was a really nice touch.

I've got to say I'm pretty much in love with it, I think it's my favourite ring I own. I really struggle with rings because my fingers are so skinny even a small in the shops are slightly too big, however, this ring is adjustable so it really does fit all :).

I ordered the one with M on for Megan obviously but you can order any letter you want. I think this ring is just so cool and it cost only £2.20.

What do you think of the ring? Hope everyone is having a nice day :).

New ASOS Bag

Hi guys

So as I mentioned in the previous post an ASOS order arrived for me today which I was very excited about. Now I used to order from ASOS a few times a month but this is my first purchase from them since last August. This is because in my opinion their prices have increased. I've found that they have started to charge a lot of money for pretty average things. However this bag popped up on my Facebook news feed as being on sale and I loved the look of it. It was a bargain at £12.80 down from £32.00. I've been looking for a nice sized bag in a summery colour and I'm very pleased with this one.

I was a bit disappointed that the picture on the site showed it in cream but as you can see from my pictures it's more of a pinky colour. I think I would have preferred cream but oh well the pink is very cute too :).

What are your opinions on ASOS? Do you like the bag?

And so it begins....

Hi Guys
So it's that time of the year again, exam time, and today is the first day of my serious revision.

So far it is not going well hence I've decided to do a post instead. This morning my ASOS order arrived which made me very happy. So hopefully either today or tomorrow there will be a post about what I bought :).

On the revision front I have started a revision wall that hopefully will be full in a week. I'm at my uni house at the moment trying to avoid the library and it's expensive coffees. I think that I definitely work better at the library but I love being at home in order to make tea and snacks whenever I want :).

Has anyone else started revision? How is it going? Where do you find you work best?

Lots of Love

Rimmel Matt finish nail varnish

Hi guys
I'm currently sitting on a train back up to Nottingham. I'm very excited about getting there as it means I get to see my lovely boyfriend. However I still have aaaages to go so I thought I'd give you my thoughts on a product I saw on a beauty blog and liked the look of It so I went and bought it.

The product is Rimmel Matt finish nail varnish. It cost £4.59, and I'm glad a bought it. I bought it from Superdrug but I also saw it in Boots.

I like it because not only does it provide a nice Matt finish but also acts as a very good top coat. I have noticed a significant difference in how long the nail varnish has stayed on for without chipping even through washing up and cleaning my bathroom, which is a massive positive. The only thing I did find was that as time went on and my nails were brushing against things the Matt effect started to wear off and my nails became polished again, but with the easy application brush it has it is easy enough to just paint another coat on when needed.
Without Matt Finish
With Matt Finish
Left With Matt Finish Right without Matt Finish

The nail varnish I used underneath the matt coat was Barry M Peach Melba which I love at the moment especially with the Matt finish over the top.
Have any of you tried this product? How did you find it?
Lots of love
Meg x

Game of Thrones: Book review

Hi guys
Another thing I love to do besides cooking is read. Sadly I don't get as much time as I'd like to do it but today I finished a book I feel is worth writing about. It's called 'A Clash of Kings' and it's by George R.R. Martin

This is the second installment in his series 'A song of ice and fire'. The first one was called 'Game of Thrones' which I'm sure a lot of you have herd about due to it being adapted as a T.V. series recently. To be honest the series is what made me want to start reading them. As a rule I think that if a book has been made into a film or a series it is usually going to be a good book.
I wanted to read the books before I watched the series so I asked for the set of books for Christmas. I finished reading the first book by new year and then started on the series. Both the book and the show are excellent. The show has just started it's second season which is why I've been in a hurry to finish the second book.

The books follow the lives of many highborn families as they fight for the throne of the fictional land of Westeros. Each chapter in the books is titled by a name of a main character and that chapter written through their eyes. The show has so far stayed very true to the books which is a massive relief and the actors and writers have done them justice. Also another reason to watch the series is for the actor Kit Harrington he plays the character Jon Snow and is in my opinion very yummy =].

I don't want to give too much away in case anyone is planning on watching the series or reading the books so I won't write about the plot in too much detail but the writer is not afraid to get his hands dirty and no character is safe.

I would thoroughly recommend both the series and the books, especially if you are a fan of the lord of the rings series. unfortunately I have left the third book at university so I am going to have to wait until I go back tomorrow to find out what happens next but I am very excited about it.

Has anyone else read the books or watched the series? If so what are your opinions of them?

Lots of Love

Packing to return to university

Hey guys this post isn't going to contain any cooking as I'm at home at the moment and my dad Is cooking me a lovely roast dinner tonight :). But I'm going home on Monday so At the moment I'm packing which is possibly the bane of my life. I hate it and I always manage to leave something behind. Which is quite easy when you have to fit all of your stuff into one suitcase, I almost always have to get the train to and from uni as Nottingham is too far away from where I live for my parents to drive and I failed my driving test last Thursday which is soooo frustrating. Is anyone else packing to go back to uni? Or has recently failed their driving test?

Banana Bread- Cheap but yummy Great for students

Hi
Now I know I haven't written in a long time, but I'm still getting used to this blogging stuff. I thought I'd write about something that I bake a few times a month, banana bread. I bake this a lot because we always end up with bananas that are too over ripe for me to eat. I love green bananas but not the ripe ones so much. So this is perfect for using these up and they don't go to waste. Banana bread works best with over ripe bananas. it is sooo easy to make as well :). here is the recipe I like to use.

250g plain flour
1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
pinch salt
115g butter
115g dark  brown soft sugar
2 eggs, beaten
500g mashed over-ripe bananas

1. Preheat the oven to 180 C / Gas mark 4. Lightly grease a 23x13cm loaf tin.

2. In a large bowl, combine flour, bicarbonate of soda and salt.

3. In a separate bowl, cream together butter and brown sugar.

4. Stir in eggs and mashed bananas until well blended.

5. Stir banana mixture into flour mixture; stir just to moisten. Pour mxture into prepared loaf tin.

6. Bake in preheated oven for 60 to 65 minutes, until a knife inserted into centre of the loaf comes out clean. Leave to cool in tin for 10 minutes, then turn out onto a wire cooling rack.
I hope you like the recipie and it turns out well for you although like i said this is a very easy thing to bake and the results are often very impressive :). Let me know how it goes

Lots of love
