Cocktail Hour

Last summer I finally got round to watching Sex and the City I don't know why it took me so long but as soon as I started watching it I was hooked. I spent the summer watching Carrie Bradshaw gulping sipping cosmopolitans in chic clubs and fabulous restaurants.  Naturally when I returned to Nottingham and went to my favourite cocktail bar I had to have one. When I tasted it I was thoroughly disappointed, I didn't understand; it looked so good and Carrie loved them.
Since then I've frequented a fair few cocktail bars and I have established my firm favourites, here are a few of my regulars. These are all perfect girly cocktails to enjoy whilst at a friends house watching Wimbledon. Another thing I love to make in the summer are punches, whenever we have friends round for a BBQ we whip up a jug of punch, Delish has some great punch recipes for me and the girls to drink whilst we lounge in the sun.

Daiquiri
Daiquiris are by far my favourite cocktails, I particularly love raspberry ones especially when there's fresh fruit garnished on the top. To be honest I'm not the biggest fan of rum so I was surprised by how much I love this drink. I love the sweetness of this drink, it kind of reminds me of the slush puppies I used to drink when I was younger, just an adult verson. A pitcher of this is perfect on a hot summer's afternoon. BBC good food has an incredibly good recipe for one.

Ingredients
4 fresh strawberries, plus ½ strawberry to garnish
2 tsp white sugar
35ml/1½fl oz white rum
1 tbsp strawberry liqueur
25ml/1fl oz lime juice

Method
Place the strawberries, sugar, rum, strawberry liqueur and lime juice into the base of a cocktail shaker and mash (muddle) with the end of a clean rolling pin.
Place the lid onto the cocktail shaker and shake well.
Strain the mixture into a Martini glass and garnish with half a strawberry.

Singapore Sling
These are a recent discovery of mine and are fast becoming a firm favourite. I think it might be due to the cherry brandy in them as I love cherry flavours and the club soda gives it a lovely little fizz. I'd love to go to Singapore and try an authentic one of these, hopefully one day this will be a reality

Ingredients
 1/2 oz grenadine syrup
1 oz ginsweet and sour mixclub soda 1/2 oz cherry brandy
Shake well.Strain into a shot glass.

 Method
Pour grenadine into the bottom of a collins glass, and fill with ice. Add gin, and almost-fill with equal parts of sweet and sour and chilled soda. Top with cherry brandy, and serve unstirred, garnished with a cherry.

Screaming orgasm
One of my favourite spirits is amaretto; I remembered when I first discovered it I was amazed that it tasted just like Dr Pepper. I love any cocktail that contains this drink but my favourite is a screaming orgasm. It's just so creamy and yummy, perfect for the beach. The amaretto gives it the lovely almondy taste and the cream liqueur makes it perfectly smooth and we all love to laugh at the name when we order it.
Ingredients
1/4 oz vodka
 1/4 oz amaretto liqueur
 1/4 oz coffee liqueur
 1/4 oz Irish cream liqueur
Method
Pour the ingredients into a cocktail shaker filled with ice.

Now I know all these cocktails have been very girly and unfortunately cocktails are taboo when it comes to males. I was reading Home Wet Bar blog and they have some great ideas for manly cocktails. I think next time I'm on the cocktails I'll have to make my boyfriend try a sidecar and see what he thinks.

 Sidecar

Ingredients
1 1/2 oz cognac
1 oz Cointreau® orange liqueur
1/2 oz fresh lemon juice
Method
Take a lemon wedge, notch a slice into the middle and use it to moisten the rim of a chilled cocktail glass. Frost the moistened outer rim of the glass with superfine sugar. Shake ingredients together with cracked ice and strain into prepared cocktail glass. Garnish with lemon twist, and serve.

I also love the sound of the Whiskey Sour, I think any drink which uses whisky should be manly enough for guys to drink and the use of lemon juice makes it sound pretty yummy.

I hope you've enjoyed the rundown of my favourite cocktails for girls and guys; all we need now is a bit of sunshine so we can sit outside and make a pitcher.

What are your favourite cocktails?

Lots of Love

A Day at the Races

Hey guys,
The main / only reason I watch Ascot is to ogle the dresses. I'd love to be able to go one day and get all dressed up, so when I was asked to take part in a competition to put together my ideal outfit I was really excited. I promptly googled the dress code to make sure my attire was suitable and started browsing the websites which I could never afford.

I knew I wanted a dress which covered the shoulders and as soon as I found this one I thought it would be perfect, I just adore the button details on the shoulders. I also decided to go for a blue fascinator to go with the dress. I found these gorgeous Kurt Geiger shoes and nearly died a little, it's probably my goal in life to own some KG shoes, A girl can dream. There's a website I love called Henryka who specialise in amber jewelry and I thought a subtle pop of colour was just what this outfit needed.

Dress - Ted Baker
Shoes - KG
Clutch - L. K. Bennett
Earrings - Henryka
Fascinator - Alexon

Hope you like my outfit, and if you want to enter you can find out more details here

Revision FOTD

This is a little FOTD that I put together whilst I was revising. I noticed that every day I was reaching for the same makeup as I wanted a quick and easy face of makeup for the day of revision ahead. When I'm revising I have to wear makeup, even if I'm just sitting at home because it makes me feel good about myself and that leads to me being more productive. So this is my daily revision face, nice and simple and easy but I think gives a really pretty effect.

1) I first applied the Garnier Roll on concealer since obviously during exam time covering the dark circles is a must. I absolutely love this product, although I'm aware that they've changed the product so I'm not sure if it will stay as good? Have any of you tried the new version? Is it any good? I've spoken more about this product in a post here.

2)  I then used the Kiehl's BB Cream* which I received in my goody bag from the NottsBBMeet, now I'm not going to say too much about this product now as I'm planning to do a full review of it soon. I have to say that some days I put this on and absolutely hate it and some days it's a complete life saver, I just cannot make up my mind. The reason it was on my face so much during exams was that it gives light coverage and I love how it feels so light on my face.  As much s there is a lot of things wrong with this product the best thing about it is that it's so quick and easy.

3) I finished off my face with the Rimmel Stay Matte powder to help my makeup stay in place all day and to keep the oil at bay.

4) Next I applied the MUA blush (you can read my rave review about it here) with my real techniques blush brush to give a subtle flush to my cheeks. Again I was going for quick and easy with this look and this blush delivers.

5) W7 Lashtastic* is another item from my goody bag and Oh my days it pretty amazing for the price. Again I'm going to do a full review of this mascara but it's become something that I use every day. I'd never heard of the brand before and I'm pretty dubious when it comes to drugstore mascaras but this one is a great little gem.  I'm not sure whether this is available in the shops but I've found it online here for £2.50.

Hope you liked this face. This is my go to makeup when I'm having a bit of a lazy day but don't want to go makeup free.

My New Favorite Reader

As many of you may have noticed GFC that we all know and love is getting scrapped. I'm not really sure why this is happening but I do know that I have been forced to get my daily blog fix elsewhere.

When I first started blogging about a year ago I hated Bloglovin, I didn't understand it and I found it hard to keep up with my favourite blogs. A year on and with the news of GFC leaving us Bloglovin have really stepped up their game. The interface is sleek and easy to use you can tell it's been subject to a real makeover. Probably the best thing about Bloglovin is their app. As I am someone who is a bit addicted to their phone I think it's great that we finally have a decent app to read all our favourite blogs.

I have been completely converted and even if GFC announced it wasn't leaving I would definitely still stick with Bloglovin. You can easily import all of the people you follow over to Bloglovin and I would urge you all to do this. I would hate to lose any of you lovely people who follow my blog in the same way I'd hate to lose any of the blogs I follow. To make it easy for you here are some other ways to follow my blog. There's a really good post which includes instructions on how to import the blogs you follow here

1) You can follow me on Twitter here

2) My new love Bloglovin

3) Instagram (I'm a little obsessed with this)

4) She Said Beauty

Just click on the links and it will take you to the respective profiles

PS: It may sound like Bloglovin have asked me to write this post but they haven't. These are all my own opinions :). x

Balance Me - Skin Brightening Hydrating Face Mist

Recently I've been hearing the words Hyaluronic acid wherever I go and to me it sounded like a wonder ingredient. I've wanted to jump on the bandwagon for a while now so when Balance Me asked me if I wanted to try the Skin Bright Hydrating Skin Mist I was so excited. Hyaluronic acid is a chemical that hydrates the skin deep down as opposed to simply moisturising the top layer.

The Balance Me Skin Bright Hydrating Face Mist* comes in an elegant glass bottle which really gives you the impression that you're using a luxury product. It has a spray top which creates a very fine mist, perfect for spraying onto your face. This mist has many uses but my favourite is to spritz it over makeup to refresh and brighten my skin. It can also be used as a toner or whenever your skin needs a moisture boost.

I love to use this product to hydrate my skin during the day, at first I was worried it would leave me looking a bit shiny but it absorbs into the skin almost instantly and actually leaves my skin looking less oily. I took this product on holiday to Majorca with me and it did wonders for my skin in the heat. It was great to cool me down and to give my thirsty skin some hydration during the hot days.

I can honestly say I have noticed a massive difference in the quality of my skin; it looks brighter and feels smoother. As I have oily skin I was worried about spraying unnecessary products on my face but I had nothing to worry about. This product is a great way to give oily skin some moisture without leaving it feeling greasy. I just know this is going to be one of my summer savoirs over the next few months.

Like all of Balance Me's products the ingredients are from 99% natural origin, recently I've been trying to cut out products filled with chemicals and it's made a massive difference. The Skin Bright Hydrating Face Mist contains no parabens, sulphates or any other nasties. It does contain lovely ingredients such as rose and pineapple waters, revitalising neroli and brightening bergamot. This does smell quite strong and this might be off-putting for some people but it is a natural smell which is mainly due to the rosewater.

Overall this product has quickly become something that I have incorporated into my daily routine, whether it's to brighten my face in the morning or to refresh my makeup during the day. It costs £20 for 60ml which has so far lasted me for a long time and is available on the Balance Me website.

Have you used anything like this before?
